Key relationships:Internal – Director of Fundraising Director of Marketing and Engagement Head of Strategy and Innovation Finance and Operations   External – with key stakeholders at the Trust
Overall purpose of role:   The postholder will be responsible for developing and implementing the funding strategy of the three charities devising new strategic initiatives, overseeing existing funded programmes and promoting them within the Trust. Providing strategic leadership across the key areas within the Funding and Impact team including evaluation and learning, grant management, trust engagement, proposition development, and the delivery of charitable programmes.  
Key responsibilities:Leadership
Work closely with the Executive Director of Charities and other members of the Charities leadership team to deliver against our four year strategy and long term ambition for impact.
Lead, inspire, motivate, and develop the Funding and Impact team, supporting them to co-develop, fund an evaluate high quality projects to maximise our impact and fulfil our mission to support better, fairer, and faster healthcare
Lead by example, facilitate integration and collaboration across the Charities team, fostering coordinated teamwork and support between teams to create and maintain a supportive and cooperative approach
Provide exceptional leadership and direction to line reports, empowering them to manage their own teams effectively.
Play an active role as a member of the wider senior management team.
Ensure our diversity, equity and inclusion principles are role-modelled and embedded in leadership and management    

Strategy
Lead the development and delivery of the funding strategy to maximise the impact of the work that we fund
Lead the development and delivery of our impact strategy to understand the impact of funding and to use the insights to attract more funding (through fundraising and partnerships) and improve how we fund to maximise future impact
Lead the development and delivery of a research funding strategy
Leading the design and implementation of a strategy to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion across our funding  

Trust Engagement
Work closely with the Trust to agree which priorities the Charity should support and the impact we are looking to have, and co-develop impactful programmes that we
Champion the work of the Foundation within the Trust and work to align the Charitie’s impact with the Trust’s strategy
Lead and direct the Foundation’s stakeholder engagement with senior leadership, clinicians and wider staff at the Trust
Work closely with the Director of Marketing and Engagement to raise the profile of our work at the Trust to increase awareness, visibility, engagement and fundraising opportunities
Ensure the team engages with Trust colleagues at all levels to secure buy in, support for and interest in our work
Work with Trust colleagues to ensure patient and family input is appropriately considered in the shaping, prioritisation and delivery of funding projects and programmes.  

Funding
Support Funding and Impact teams to translate strategies into plans, monitor progress, and take decisive action as appropriate to ensure we remain on track to deliver
Oversee management of grant portfolio and related governance
Ensure the efficient management of restricted and endowed funds
Ensure central role of patient, family and public voice  

Impact and learning
Articulate a framework for tracking and evaluating the impact of our funding
Provide technical expertise and help identify areas for research or evaluation. 
Determine the needs of specific projects, and support in the formulation of research questions, hypotheses and outcomes
Lead the search for expert external evaluation and learning teams commission them and steward relationships
Direct the critical appraisal of all evidence generated
Bring data and learning to bear on strategic conversations and champion a culture of transparency, candour and evidence-informed decision making
Lead learning approaches to support ongoing learning from our work to evolve how and what we fund  

Other
Ensure integrated ways of working, effective sharing and collaboration with the Fundraising team and Communications teams
Continuously monitor and hone ways of working across the team
Oversee the embedding of diversity, equity and inclusion in how we approach funding and impact
Ensure we harness the potential of our nationally recognised art collection, to enhance the environment of the Trust for the benefit of staff and patients  

Corporate role and responsibility
Manage the team and budget
Lead the annual planning and budgeting process for Funding and Impact engaging Fundraising and Marketing and Engagement to ensure that they are fully aligned and integrated
Monitor team performance and report on this for internal monitoring and updates for our Board of Trustees
People responsibilities associated with line management
Represent the Charity at the highest levels, engaging credibly, dynamically and charismatically with internal and external stakeholders.
Key stakeholder relations with partners
Deputise for the Executive Director of Charities where required.
Perform other such duties as may be delegated by the Executive Director of Charities

Ensure continual personal professional development of competency, knowledge and skills
Seek and act upon feedback from colleagues
