Chair

The role

New Local is looking for a Chair who will bring supportive but rigorous leadership to the role. While they will chair and lead constructive discussions at Board meetings, it is expected that the Chair will play a wider role advising the Chief Executive and the senior leadership team. They will also use their contacts and experience to significantly enhance the impact of New Local’s work and the achievement of its strategic goals.

ESSENTIAL:

  • Strong network in local government at most senior level
  • A high level of credibility in local government sector
  • Strong and dedicated commitment to community power
  • Commitment to New Local’s five-year strategy
  • Able to work in a highly supportive and collaborative way in line with New Local’s culture
  • Non-party political background or no longer active in party politics or with strong commitment to and reputation for cross-party working
  • Ongoing commitment to diversity

DESIRABLE:

  • Strong network in health sector
  • Good profile in national media
  • Strong contacts in central government/Parliament
